Airplanes by Clark County School District School Children

The hanging sculpture in the concourse was inspired by the 12 winning designs from a Clark County School District middle school competition. Large-scale reproductions of colorful paper airplanes soar high above the concessions area, adding vibrancy and life to the space.

“Almighty” by Peter Lik

The light show that “Almighty” captured at Red Rock Canyon is unbelievably beautiful, and it’s only 30 minutes away from the craziness of the Las Vegas Strip. The storm added an otherworldly quality to the canyon as sunlight passed through it, making everything glow golden as the sun set.

“Bighorn Sheep” by Robert Beckmann

Robert Beckmann’s “Bighorn Sheep” mural shows the sheep power and Elegancy as it stands on a rocky surface. The picture reflects an encounterers experience with one of Nevada’s most worshiped animal, which not many people have experienced.

“Blaze of Beauty” by Peter Lik

“Blaze of Beauty” is a photo by Peter Lik that captures the intense beauty of one of the Seven Wonders of the World,the Grand Canyon. The sun cracking the horizon is shown in this photo and reflects not only  the depth, grandeur and scale but also the colors ofGrand Canyon walls .Location: Terminal 3, Customs & Border Protection

“Blue Arroyo” by Talley Fisher, for Rob Fisher Sculpture, LLC

“Blue Arroyo” is a sculpture that flows like a river, located above the heads of travelers at the east end of baggage claim. It weaves around columns in the space, following the path of a virtual arroyo. In the distance, one can see “Waterfall” cascading down the window wall.

“Boulder Dam” by Tom Holder

“Boulder Dam” by Tom Holder. From an uncommon perspective, “Hoover Dam”, our region’s most symbolic icon, is represented by Tom Holder. The dam appears as a tiny component within the much more vast desert surrounding it. The image pitilessly juxtaposes the dam’s whiteness with the red of the desert to intensify perception of the dam as a precious jewel.

Children’s Art Photomosaic by Robert Silvers

The Photomosaic process was created by artist Robert Silvers while he was still attending MIT. If you haven’t seen his work, it’s intricate and offers a really unique perspective. His pieces have been gaining acclaim globally. In order to create the images, thousands of smaller pictures were submitted by 33,000 elementary, middle ,and high school students from Clark County. The ten winning images are displayed on 8’x12′ glass panels that are mounted slightly away from the wall and backlit- giving viewers an artfully inspired experience as they pass by!

City Scapes by Clark County School District School Children

16 winning drawings of skylines from various world-famous cities were selected to be displayed near the D Gates tram station. Each student’s drawing was enlarged by their classmates into a 6×9 painting, then sent to the tile manufacturer to be transferred onto 486 8-inch tiles. This display offers Las Vegas visitors a vibrant and unique perspective on other well-known cities around the world.

“Cloud 9” by Barbara & Larry Domsky

With an overall space of 90’x 19′, “Cloud 9” is composed of soft iridescent colors and dichroic glass to imitate the gathering of clouds in the Las Vegas sky.

“Dédale” by Kenneth F. vonRoenn, Jr.

Dédale is inspired by the Greek myth of Daedalus, who built wings of wax to escape a labyrinth. The sculpture is 26’ x 8’ and made from aluminum tubes, dichroic acrylic and stainless steel cables. vonRoenn wanted to pay tribute to Daedalus as the original symbol of aviation safety with this piece.

“Desert Sunrise” by Talley Fisher, for Rob Fisher Sculpture, LLC

The artwork “Desert Sunrise” contains a cumulus cloud bank that’s approximately 75′ long and 45′ wide. The pieces are laser cut out of perforated aluminum and powder coated with colors that resemble a desert sunrise, ranging from bright gold to deep reds, purples and orange. The clouds appear to float through the space silently.

“Desert Wildlife” by David Phelps

“Desert Wildlife” by David Phelps is an exhibit of four larger-than-life scaled examples of the Southern Nevada’s native wildlife created in crackled concrete. The animals depicted include the desert rattlesnake, horned toad, desert tortoise, and desert hare.

“Echoes of Las Vegas” by Adolfo R. Gonzalez

Adolfo Gonzalez’s 152-foot mural tells the story of Las Vegas through various time periods. It starts with a scene from the early days, when an old-fashioned bi-plane was coming in for a landing. Then, it shows how the Strip has changed over time. The final scene shows a jet taking off into the modern day sky.

“Flight Paths” by Gregg LeFevre

“Flight Paths” by Gregg LeFevre is an installation art piece located in the rotunda floor terrazzo at the D Gates. This work takes inspiration from air navigation maps, and depicts passenger arrival into Las Vegas. The hope is that viewers will be more aware of their surroundings and the geography of our city.

“Folies in Flight” by Terry Ritter

Terry Ritter, a former Las Vegas showgirl, has painted a three-dimensional mural in tribute to the legendary “Folies Bergere” performers. The work is characterized by its use of bright colors.

“Ghost Gem Garden” by John Torreano

The “Ghost Gem Garden,” consisting of six gems from ten to eighteen feet tall and made of two-to three-inch metal tubing with some facets missing and/or filled in with glass or similar materials, was sculpted by John Torreano, a nationally renowned artist.

“Glass Sculpture” by Tony Milici

“Glass Sculpture” by Tony Milici is a composite of glass layers of seguaro cacti and desert plants, giving it a 3-D appearance.

“Inner City Games” by Clark County School District Children

The “What Las Vegas Means to Me” drawing contest is an annual event for kids living in the city. In 1997, five out of nine winners chose to display their artwork in tile murals on Level 2 of the D Gates at the airport.

“Miraré” by Stu Schechter

“Miraré” consists of two planes that are only visible when the sculpture is looked at from different angles. The lead plane looks like a bunch of ghosts because it’s made entirely out of Nevada native butterflies. The second plane appears solid, with butterflies show tail colors and logos from all the aircrafts that have served Las Vegas throughout its history. In total, there are 3,000 butterfly sculptures suspended by 2,400 thin stainless steel wires.

The Mojave Desert is a popular destination for many photographers, and Roy Purcell’s 8-by-30 feet long acrylic painting captures the haunting beauty of this area.

“Muito Ilus Avec Baggage” by Erik Burke

Erik Burke’s aviation mural, ‘Very Beautiful With Baggage,’ reveals our innate desire to explore and connect with cultures outside of our own. The hard-lined tarmac is incredibly grounded in reality, while the whimsically perched planes offer a sense of speculation and discovery – two very different yet necessary aspects of travel that are often at odds with one another. This painting accurately represents the mixed feelings anyone goes through when preparing for a journey: excitement tempered by nerves, not quite knowing what to expect but trusting that it will be worth the adventure nonetheless.

“Nevada” by Terry Schoonhoven

“Nevada” by Terry Schoonhoven is a mural that tells the story of Nevada’s past and present. From the Las Vegas Strip to Hoover Dam, Schoonhoven captures the spirit of Nevada in this collage-like painting.

“Rays” by Ed Carpenter

“Rays” is a clever play on light, both natural and artificial. The dichroic glass panels hung from cables brighten up the gigantic window wall in the west end ticketing lobby. And when touched by light, “Rays” creates beautiful projections and reflections on nearby surfaces.

“Sacred Sunrise” by Peter Lik

“Sacred Sunrise” depicts the sun peeking out from behind an awe-inspiring arch in Utah’s Canyonland National Park.

“Skylight Cones” by Tony Milici

Tony Milici’s “Skylight Cones”, composed of hanging steel and glass frames positioned to refract and catch the light in two food court skylights, consists of reclaimed industrial glass that has been sandblasted and polished to produce a rugged “jewel” look.

“Sunset Mirage” by Barbara & Larry Domsky

This art piece, creatively titled “Sunset Mirage”, is a 90′ x 19″ wall sculpture made with both dichroic fused glass and metal. The colors used in the piece reflect those often seen in beautiful desert sunsets, making it the perfect addition to any Las Vegas home.

Table Top Art by Clark County School District School Children

35 winning designs from a Clark County School District competition for 3rd grade students are displayed on 30″ diameter table-tops. Each design focuses on the plants, animals and landscapes of Nevada.

“Tryptych Passages” by Harold Bradford

Artist Harold Bradford used oil and acrylic to create the work of art, “Tryptych Passages.” This 8-by-153-foot long, three paneled canvas captures the extraordinary colors present in our desert surroundings.

“Vaquero” by Luis Jiménez

“Vaquero” by Luis Jiménez is a sculpture that can be found near the Terminal 1 Departures curb. The piece depicts a cowboy on top of a horse, which alludes to the Southwest’s rich history.

“Waterfall” by Talley Fisher, for Rob Fisher Sculpture, LLC

The “Waterfall” installation at Level 2 spills down into the Baggage Claim area on Level 0. The nine curtains of beads bring silver sheets of polished chain raining down through an opening in the floor, creating a stunning visual effect.
